Food allergies cause tens of thousands of emergency room visits in the United States each year and are one of the top food safety risks to consumers. In 2023, nearly half of all food recalls were ordered because of an undisclosed allergen on the product label. This increase is mainly credited to the new labeling requirement for sesame on food packaged after January 1, 2023.
